Externally Gapped Line Surge Arrester (EGLA)

By combining a series gap with a zinc oxide nonlinear resistor current-limiting element, lightning overvoltages and switching overvoltages on the protected electrical equipment can be limited. The isolation effect of the series gap prevents single-phase grounding and does not affect the safe operation of the line.

The surge arrester uses pure air, the insulating medium is recoverable, the gap distance is fixed and unaffected by the operating environment, and the lightning discharge characteristics are constant. Even if the surge arrester fails, it can still operate for a long time and be used as a surge protection device to provide effective line lightning protection. After the surge arrester bracket is installed, the surge arrester can be installed and replaced from the ground via an insulated operating rod, significantly reducing the cost of surge arrester installation, emergency repair, and replacement, and reducing the difficulty and risk of the operation.
