A supplier can send a large folder of certificates without answering the question that matters: does the evidence cover the product and configuration you intend to buy? Review documents against a specific model, drawing and purchase requirement. The checklist below works for fittings, terminals, insulators and distribution equipment, with the document scope adapted to each product.
First identify the item the evidence must cover
Record the BOM reference, proposed model, drawing revision, principal ratings, material and quantity. If the product is a substitute or custom design, identify its differences from the previously tested or approved item. Ask the supplier to explain which records apply directly and which require further review.
Separate four types of evidence
Product definition
A datasheet and controlled drawing should establish what will be supplied: dimensions, ratings, material or finish where specified, interfaces, included accessories and installation requirements. Resolve discrepancies between the catalogue, quotation and drawing before approving production.
Product performance
A relevant test report should identify the sample, test method, conditions, measured results and acceptance criteria. Read the scope rather than just the cover page. For example, a temperature-rise record does not by itself establish long-term service life or all mechanical properties. A report on one size or material should not automatically be applied to every model in a family.
Order or batch inspection
Agree which checks are needed for the delivery, what will be sampled and how the records will be linked to the order. Depending on the item and contract, this might include dimensions, visual condition, material or coating records, functional checks or other specified inspections. Routine and type-test obligations depend on the applicable product standard and contract; agree those obligations explicitly.
Management-system certification
An ISO 9001 certificate concerns a quality management system. It is not a certificate of conformity for an individual terminal, transformer or insulator. Check the certified organization, location, activity scope, issuing body and validity, and request product evidence separately.
Use these questions when opening a test report
- Identity: Do the model, drawing, dimensions and materials match the proposed item?
- Conditions: Are the conductor, assembly, current or load, ambient conditions and measurement method stated where relevant?
- Results: Are actual measurements and acceptance criteria shown, rather than only a claim that the sample passed?
- Traceability: Can the report number, date, sample identifier and responsible laboratory or test organization be established?
- Coverage: Does the document support this order’s required property, or a different property or configuration?
- Changes: Has a material, interface, process or design revision occurred since the test that needs a documented assessment?
Handle model-name differences with a written cross-reference
If a report uses a different model designation, request a cross-reference connecting the report sample to the offered product, with the drawing revision and any differences stated. A marketing name alone is not enough to establish equivalence.
For SUNENG’s copper-aluminium development, the available temperature-rise record uses the SYG designation while SYG-ZQ is the internal product-series name. Ask for the sample-to-model mapping for the size being quoted. Review the record as the evidence it is; do not describe an internal record as an independent third-party certificate. See our certificates and test-record page and terminal specification guide.
Agree the document list before placing the order
List each required document, the product or batch it covers, its language, the responsible issuer and the date it must be approved or delivered. State any inspection hold points and any independently witnessed or laboratory testing required. Confirm availability, scope, cost and timing rather than assuming all documents are included in a standard quotation.
For a new custom part, separate dimensional sample approval from the performance verification needed before production or release. SUNENG can review your document requirements alongside the standard or custom supply proposal. Send the model, drawing and acceptance-document list so open evidence requirements can be identified early.
